Rev. Kathy Buligan was ordained as a permanent deacon at and for St. Timothy’s, Agincourt on May 30, 2010. Her diaconal ministry includes a liturgical role which includes preaching and developing Bible study materials. It also focuses on chairing the St. Timothy’s Outreach Committee which oversees a variety of outreach efforts here, near, and far. Examples include: community service awards at a local high school and within the church for young people who give their time in volunteer efforts; sponsoring students in Uganda; supporting The Boys and Girls Club through Faithworks donations; supporting the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers To Grandmothers Program through an annual Mothers’ Day Brunch; organizing a biannual walkathon to support our Wednesday Breakfast for the Homeless and our Uganda student sponsorship; annual Advent Gift Tree collecting gifts for children, young people, and the homeless. Other initiatives include coordinating the St. Timothy’s Wednesday Breakfast for the Homeless Program and participation in the Out of the Cold Program and singing in the choir.
Kathy is a retired educator, with a 31-year career as a secondary school teacher (geography, biology, chemistry) and as a vice-principal. She holds a B.A. from York, an M.Ed from OISE, University of Toronto, an M.Rel from Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, and a doctorate in theology, also from Wycliffe/University of Toronto. She is currently a four year member of the International Executive Board of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honourary organization for women educators. This role includes sharing oversight of the Foundation and of developing policies and procedures that will ensure growth in the 21st century. She is also the president of her local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.
Kathy is married to Serge, a retired IT implementation coordinator, and now an amateur chef, a guitar maker and repairer, and an alpine ski race coach. Both Kathy and Serge love to ski, golf, hike, garden, and travel.
